Dr. Alexander
Rose

Alexander Tuan Rose, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a general surgeon. Born in Danang, Viet Nam, Dr. Rose moved to the U.S. in 1975. He received two undergraduate degrees from the University of Florida in Gainesville, one in Exercise Physiology and one in Entomology and Nematology. Prior to joining North Florida Surgeons, Dr. Rose served as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Florida as well as the University of South Florida Department of Surgery. He received his Medical Doctorate from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. He completed his residency at Detroit Medical Center at Wayne State University. He is fellowship-trained in critical care by the Department of Surgery, University of Florida in Jacksonville. Dr. Rose is Board certified in General Surgery and Critical Care and is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons.

As one of the leading robotics surgeons in the Jacksonville area, Dr. Rose integrates the latest robotics technologies with surgical skill to provide more effective treatment, less pain, and a quicker recovery for his patients. Dr. Rose is an approved robotic proctor, teaching other surgeons how to do robotic surgery. He specializes in colorectal, complex hernia, chest wall reconstruction, foregut (includes the esophagus, stomach, and small intestine), endocrine (adrenal, thyroid, and parathyroid), and cholecystectomy, including single site procedures utilizing robotics and advanced laparoscopic techniques.

Dr. Rose was presented with the Thaddeus M. Moseley Teaching Award presented by the residents of the University of Florida, College of Medicine in Jacksonville. He also received the Arvin I. Philippart Award for Surgical Excellence presented by the Children’s Hospital of Michigan faculty. He was chosen as Intern of the Year at the Wayne State University Department of Surgery and served as Class President for the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Among his other distinctions, Dr. Rose also proudly achieved the status of Eagle Scout.

Dr. Rose is an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Course Director. As an ATLS Course Director, Dr. Rose has been certified to instruct other healthcare professionals on the systematic approach to assessing a patient’s condition as well as resuscitating, stabilizing, and caring for a trauma patient.

One of the best skills Dr. Rose provides is his outstanding ability to get to know his patients, to listen and understand their needs. Surgery is personal for him. His cordial nature makes it easier for patients to ask questions and discuss concerns. His patients appreciate the care they receive from Dr. Rose, both as a surgeon and a person.

When he is not at work, Dr. Rose enjoys surfing and playing golf, and above all he loves spending time with his wife, daughters, and son.
